Sleep or lack of it.

Things have been crazy around here.
In the last week Charlie has learnt to sit up, started crawling, grown two teeth, and caught a cold.

Sleep has been messy and nonexistent, with Charlie waking almost every hour, most nights. Naps are the same and last for 30 minuets, if they happen at all.

So what do you do when your faced with sleep problems you can't fix?
What happens when your baby doesn't want to be fed, rocked, walked, parented to sleep? What do you do when you can't sit and try to settle your baby because your toddler is screaming for you to come back?

Do you take a walk on the dark side?

I've started thinking about letting her cry, I hate that I just typed those words.

I run it over and over in my mind, weighing up the pros's and con's hoping for a magical answer to appear, but it doesn't. Because in this job there is no magic answer, there is experience, books, and advice, some good and some bad but mostly its up to you. The final decision is always yours and that kind of responsibility makes the decision all the harder.

I really don't want to go down this path, so for now I'm taking it one day at a time hoping it will pass, blaming the cold, teeth and newly found skills but knowing these sleep habits were there before any of the above.

Bear with me while I find my mojo and get over this cold, the blog might be a bit quite.

Side note: I am not judging people who choose to do CIO, controlled crying or whatever "sleep training" you see fit. I believe we all do what we choose is right for our family at the time, and as parents we all have a right to make our own decisions, I also think we have enough to deal with without judging each other as well.

  1. oh my gosh, I totally feel for you! I think sometimes all you CAN do is let them cry :( But I think you're right at this time, she's sick, teething and going through transitions, maybe now isn't the best time to try the no cry method into action. Stay strong, you can do it :)
